Jeff Greenwood is in a class by himself.
He was the only student to graduate from Opheim High School this year, but the small event Friday drew a big name. Gov. Brian Schweitzer gave the commencement address.
Greenwood, who plans to attend Dickinson State University in North Dakota, said the high school is the "hub of activity" for rural Opheim, a town about 10 miles south of the Canadian border.
"The student-to-teacher ratio is pretty good," said Greenwood, who is the student body president and, of course, the senior class president.
Greenwood had a few classmates before high school, but his last remaining classmate moved to Utah during freshman year. He took some classes alone his senior year while sharing others with juniors at the school.
"You get to know everybody and you're friends with everybody," Greenwood said. "At the same time, you can't get away with anything."
Principal LeRoy Nelson, who has also been school superintendent, said he thought this was the first time the school graduated just one student. Six students graduated last year and 12 are on track to graduate in 2009.

i guess i dont really get it but it would be sweet to be the only one to graduate this must of have been a really small schoolmbz
wow. that would kind of stink. only person in your class. i guess that the one on one student help would be there tho!
Thats kinda sad to be the only student, probably get a lot done in the classes that you are the only students isnt this school close enough to other schools that it could combine with isnt it a waste of money to have this type of teacher to student ratio
It would get pretty lonely being the only senior. I like having tons of friends to share your graduation with. I guess it would be a huge transition from him going from one kid in his class to having lots in college.
Well, I would assume at least he learned quite a bit because he got all the attention. I bet he doesn't even have any friends. No but seriously being the only one in class would feel really awkward I would think. Graduation would be really lame too. I almost feel bad for him.
lol this is dumb. why would you waste your money on one graduate. why would you have that small of a school. oh yeah and it is true in smaller schools you cant get waway with anything and everyone knows you.
crazy that they didnt transer the one student to another school or somethingm, oh well. im sure he learned alot and had a lot of fun doing it.
Making class decisions must have been pretty easy. I wonder if he went on a "class trip". I expect his was a fairly lonely situation, but he probably received a good education.
This is nice that the school even offered him the same exercises as they would with a larger class. This kid must feel pretty special and it is good he is doing something with his high school education and going onto college.
that would really suck. just think taking all the class you need as a senior by your self. you would get really lonely and lose you identity i dont think i could have done it.
That would suck to be the only person in your class cause you wouldn't get to experience anything with co-seniors.... You would be all alone at every event including the actual graduation. It would just be really lonely and depressing....
YAY.. for this person that would be gnarly to be the only one in your class but there are some advantages as Mr. Daniel Towers pointed out like getting all of the attention from the teachers would make it even more easier to learn stuff. YAY... GO seniors 2 days left!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this wouuld be vary weird
you would have a lot of time to bacause you wouldnt have to go to others partys
that would be boring being the only one to graduate but i guess itd be something youd never forget. im sure he never got interrupted im sure hes pretty smart hah
wow! i think it would suck to be the only student to graduate but in a way kind of sweet but not all the great memories!!
This is hardcore. That would suck really bad. I'm sure this dude is friends with some juniors but it would be very lonely being a lone senior.
dude that would be the gayest thing in the world. to graduate by yourself. i would trip
wow!! That would be kind of cool. To be the only one in your grade. The school must be kind of small. It must have been wierd in class. Just him and the teachers. I hope that he has a bright future.
it would be cool to be the only one to graduate, but at the same time it would be boring. who would want to spend their senior year alone? i know i wouldn't.
Graduating by yourself would be pretty lame. I don't know how this school can opperate because there are so few students. However they do it, it must work because every year they have only a handful of kids. I'll bet the kids comming out of this school are pretty smart because the teachers have more time with each student.
wow what a waste of tax payers dollars! man if they are paying these teachers to teach a class with only one student in them they are nuts. I read the kid does take some classes with juniors but thats still crazy. Well at least the kid is getting a good education.
It would be kinda weird being the only student why couldn't they just combine with another school it would be a waste to pay a teacher and it wouldn't be fun graduating by your self its fun when u have ur whole grade.
