Cyber bullying Mom Charged

She was thirteen years old and thought that she was having a MySpace online romance with a sixteen-year-old boy named "Josh Evans." Four weeks later, "Josh" broke off correspondence, allegedly telling the girl that the world would be a better place without her. In response, she hung herself and died a day later.

Now the Department of Justice says that "Josh" was really Lori Drew, 49, of O'Fallon, Missouri. Drew will stand trial in Los Angeles, accused of providing false information to get a MySpace account and violating MySpace terms to harass and harm other people—specifically, a girl -Megan Meier-the same age as her daughter who was a neighbor.

13 Year Old Megan

Drew was supposedly talking to Megan via the Internet to find out what Megan was saying about Drew's daughter, who was a former friend.

In Missouri, the girl's mother, Tina Meier, told the Associated Press, "I'm thrilled that this woman is going to face charges." Megan's father, Ron Meier, 38, said he began to cry "tears of joy" when he heard of the indictment. "She should be punished because she knew exactly what she was doing," Megan's mother, Tina Meier, told CBS' The Early Show , "She was playing a game with my 13-year-old daughter. And there is absolutely no reason that she should be able to be walking on the street... We were served a life sentence without Megan, and she should be serving a life sentence."

This is the first case of its kind. What do you think?

I think this woman should face these charges and get everything you can possibly get for this kind of case. I feel bad for this girls family about their loss! This is wrong in so many ways.

i agree with amanda and justin, this woman should be charged with anything possible. what she did to that poor girl was unfathomable. she is 40 years old, and has a 13 year old daughter, she should know that young girls emotions are extremely fragile and they take things to heart. she never should have said these things regardless of the relationshipn between megan and the womans daughter!

I think this lady is creepy and deserves the charges she is facing. This is a new type of crime that we will be having to deal with now because of MySpace and Facebook.

How pathetic do you have to be to do this. What kind of 40 year old gets there kicks from fooling with young teenagers minds. There is no excuse for such harassment and she should be charged and convicted for this crime. I don't see how she can live with herself after doing this. Its disgusting.

Yea that is screwed up. its only right that she has these charges, she intentionally drove a young child into a state of mind that had become lethal. she practically did the hanging in my onion.

This lady is sick and twisted. She deserves to get a life sentence. She is cruel and stupid for telling a 13 YEAR OLD that the world would be better w/o her. In my opinion, the world would be better w/o sick individuals like her.

This lady has committed murder via internet. She caused a young girl to take her own life. This mean ladies punishment should be verbally instulted and hanged until dead..YAY for the death penalty.

i think this woman should be hung. that is crap if you daughter is fighting with some other girl stay out. parents should not get involved unless their is a death threat or someone seriously get hurt.

wow she never should have even started talking to her in the first place and why would you say something like that to a 13 year old girl? some people take that stuff seriously and even though she didnt kno she was going to kill herself, its still her fault. why else would she have hung herself? thats Wrongg

This lady is a freak and deserves the charges. She has a daughter of her own so she obviously knows what to say to a young girl to draw her in and then to tell her what she did is wrong and the women should be sent away.

the woman should get the death penalty or somethin intense done to her

The woman deserves the charges that she gets because she tricked the little girl. She even told the little girl to go and kill herself and the girl did. I hope that she gets the proper punishment

I think that she should be charged with everything and more! She was responsible for the death of a 13 yr old girl and she has caused pain on that girls whole family! Just to see if she was talking bad about her daughter.

Both the girl and the woman are idiots. Everyone is wont to side with the girl because she died, but she took her own life. Every day hundreds of people throughout the world try to take their own lives for many reasons. Many of those who fail either regret it or feel so saddened by the world that they choose to try again. Either way, the woman can not seriously be held accountable for causing the death of the girl. Call me heartless, but I've had people recommend that I kill myself before and I wasn't even phased. The only things the woman can really be held accountable for are impersonation and providing false information.
I'm convinced that these parents, as in thousands of other cases, are searching for someone to blame for the death of their child because they would feel responsible otherwise. They are not. You can blame the girl or you can blame society. The woman's actions were stupid, perhaps they might even be considered negligent, but if she had been a 16-year old boy as the girl though she was, then I wouldn't even consider her actions terribly unusual.
