Gas Prices

As gas prices continue to rise, as of today they are$3.19 in our area ( I paid $3.07 in Bemidji last night). US gas consumption has started to fall-we are using less gas. It fell by one percent over the past two months. This may not be much- but it is a first. Analysts have been waiting for gas prices to affect how much we use and it looks like prices have finally gotten high enough to make us use less gas.

I wonder how gas prices will affect tourism this summer and boating. I guess it could be worse. Gas is $8.60 a gallon in Germany.

i think that gas prices are pretty outrageous. I have to work in park rapids almost everyday in the summer and i don't think that i am going to make any thing if i have to keep putting it in my gas tank. I think that this is will effect tourism in the summer because people arent going to want to do much because it will be expensive to keep driving up and spending alot here. I dont know what i will do if gas gets any higher i hope it will go down some or some new ideas of transportation will have ot be invented.

yes people think twice on where they are driving but it dont stop us from driving extra. We need to get where we want to go we are just going to become wiser.... like car pooling etc. For the poor people making minimum wage and who has bills they wont be able to afford gas prices any higher. But for the middle class and higher it dont stop them. I know it will effect tourism because they will have less spending money not just more to get where you are going.

I think that gas prices are horrible. It seems that every once in a while gas will go down and then in the next couple of days the gas prices will be 10 cents more. its horrible. I have been driving less too becuase i don't want to pay like $30 every week for gas. People have been walking, carpooling, and so on trying to use less gas. I am sure by summertime gas will be over $4 and tourism will be low. We also won't be using boats and stuff like that.

It is so hard to pay for gas now because it is so high especially when you live in the country. I dont think twice about car pooling if I can. These days it isnt worth me driving to town to work because I wont make enough to make it worth it after I pay for gas.

Last summer I worked in Park Rapids for a while. Living south of Menahga and driving an old pickup it was costing me more than an hour of wages just to drive there and back, and this working for perhaps 4 hours. Why is Sebeka gas always cheaper than Menahga? People are always asking me about gas prices at my job.

I think that gas prices are getting out of control and i don't, nor understand why they are so high. Personally, i have been making less unnecessary trips and i also feel that a lot of other people are doing the same. I feel that the high gas prices will affect tourism, not only do people have to drive up here to go camping, fishing etc.. but they have to put gas in their boats and other vehicles.

i think the gas prices suck. it totally affects where you want to work and what kind of vehicle you have. no matter how high gas gets i still think people are going to drive .. they have to. both my parents work in park rapids and during the hockey season my parents are making about 3 trips to pr a day. the gas bills are outrageious.

I agree that gas prices are far too high. This will definitely affect travel plans over the summer. Family vacations may still happen but they will probably stay closer to home. I am glad to see that our gas usage went down. It would be great if we as a country could lower our dependency on foreign oil.

gas prices are way to high. many people think before they go anywhere cause they dont want to waste gas cause its so high. it will effect tourism, and boating and things this summer because people will not want to spend so much in gas to travel. i hope gas will go down.

I hope we do not look at this gas price at the end of the school year and think....wow, I wish gas was still 3.19 a gallon.

Don makes a good point...why are gas prices cheaper in Sebeka than in PR or Menahga???? I have NO idea. Other than the stations in Menahga all follow the price leader--remember Economics? And the price leader here sets them high, the price leader in Sebeka sets them low. What do you think?

I think that tourism is going to really affect neighboring communities that rely on tourism as their main soucre of income. People will not come out at all or as much because of the gas prices. I hope people start driving less forcing the gas price down.
I wonder what would happen if Menahga students would ride the bus more?? I know for a fact that it has saved me a lot of money!!

Gas prices are ridiculous. It seems like they go up 5 cents over night! It's hard for people to pay for gas and other prices are going up too. Our whole economy is in trouble and heading for a crash or something. I also think tourism will be very low this year, well maybe because a lot of the people that come to the lakes are where all our money is held.

I don't think the price of gas will have a very big effect unless it rises higher than 5 or 6 dollars a gallon. People will start car pooling more and really using less gas if prices ever reach that point.

I hate the gas prices!! I work in park rapids and sometime they only put me on for 4 hours its not even worth driving in to work and i am sure for a lot of part time workers its not even worth for them to work just stay home and not go anywhere. I don't drive anymore like at all maybe go to PR like 2 times a week i even ride the school bus to school because of the gas prices. they need to do something!
