VT town seeks arrest warrants for Bush, V.P.
A group in Brattleboro, Vermont is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community. Activists want them subject to arrest for war crimes.
The town meeting, an annual exercise in which residents gather to vote on everything from fire department budgets to municipal policy, requires about 1,000 signatures to place a binding item on the agenda.
The measure asks: "Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities?"
The Brattleboro Select Board voted 3-2 to put the item on the ballot for the March vote.
The board voted to put the item on the ballot after receiving petitions from townspeople with the required number of signatures.
Select Board member Richard Garant says he thinks the vote is legal, but the town doesn't have the authority to issue an arrest warrant. He says it sends a message.

I think this is crazy. I can understand people being upset about the war and how it's being handled, but to subject the president and vp to arrest if they visit your town.. crazy!
i feel that the town is doing good by making a statement. this is not the greatest way of doing it because i am sure they will not get their way. Yet they are doing something. I dont have alot of things to say about this. I just dont care.

Even if the whole thing went through there is no way they would be able keep Dick or Bush in jail. Frankly i think the town is wasting valuable resources by trying to make a statement. sure it might become a big deal if Bush lands in jail but it wont have any real effect; However if Bush were to get arrested it would make for a very lovely Daily Show.
I think that this town is the dumbest town on the face of the earth. They will not get anywhere with the petition to have the President and Vice President arrested.
This is a ridiculous idea, and they will never get anywhere with it. The president cannot be charged with war crime because he has to get approval send troops to foreign countries. Unless he actually comitted a war crime, he is innocent.

Haha I think that is it kinda funny. Its almost like that particular town decided to go against their own nation by wanting to arrest Bush and Cheney. I believe that that particular town is INSANE. They need to put an insane asylum in their town before they decide to accuse the president and the vice president of crimes.

I think this sounds a little odd. I would like to know more about why the people are so upset. War Crimes? I may not agree with every aspect of the war but putting the president and vice president behind bars does not sound like the best way to deal with this situation. I think that these people have fallen off the deep end! I think that this could be dealt with in a more mature manner.
Who do the people of this town think they are? Arrest the president? If i was Bush i would go to that town to watch they try arrest me. dang liberals.
This is only meant to make a statement. They'd be really foolish to think any action would actually be taken. I'm surprised that someone convinced three members of the town council to do this - it must be an interesting town.
This is crazy, not to mention that it will never happen. so you are mad about the war? you are going to arrest your president and part of his cabinet? these people in this town have the right to run for office and vote. they can make a difference by doing other things than getting mad and threatening their commander and chief, however i don't support the war either.
They shouldn't be able to do that, the town that is. Just because they don't agree with what the nation has done regarding some things doesn't mean they can try to get the President arrested. If i was the President, I'd send a message to them via some round-a-bout way basically mocking how sad it is that they would try something so juvenile.

I think people should have the ability to say what they think but come on trying to ban the president and the vice president? What has this country came to that we can't even show any respect to the people leading our country even if we don't agree with them.
I think the people of this town are just stupid for even thinking of such a thing. For one thing, it would probably never go through, and if it ever would, do you think Bush would visit there? Why would he go to a place where he isnt welcome and where he would be arrested for visiting. It seems to me like this town is acting like a whole bunch of first graders, i mean.. cmon!
This is just plain retarded, to me. I'm not a high fan of the president, but he is doing his job. all these people are doing is trying to get him, no matter how hard it may be. Going to this extreme is just plain stupid, and it probably wont work in the long run!
yeah i don't like the war or how the president has handled things during his term but to have them arrested when they come to your town is a little overrated.

I think this is silly. You may not like the war but you shouldn’t just throw them in jail. That’s the worst things you can do. They are the ones to help get the war over with and to get the troops home. You put them in jail, you won’t get what you want.
